Dhurmus Suntali Foundation Announce their Third Work

Dhurmus Suntali Foundation is a leading not-for-profit organization in Nepal legally registered under the Social Welfare Council of Nepal government. The Dhurmus Suntali Foundation is founded by Nepal’s popular comedian duos Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus) and Kunjana Ghimire (Suntali) after Gorkha Earthquake.

Background

EQ 2072 was very devastating natural disaster for Nepalese, it took thousands of lives, millions of houses were destructed. Till date too, the survivals are struggling to live. The huge devastation has attracted attention from international arena. Many more seminars, meetings has been held to reconstruction and emergency relief to the community, unfortunately the decisions made were limited in paper only. Many countries show their eagerness to help in reconstruction project, committed to provide heavy budget and for that time those commitments showed a shining line around the devastation of EQ among the effected Nepalese. Nepalese have spend the days, weeks, months and now whole year in expectation of quick implementation of reconstruction project, but the delay in implementation of project has made community people more scared who are living with many aftershocks. Despite of expecting from government only, we as the responsible citizen have also responsibility of making efforts to uplift Nepalese lives, with this realization if we make unity among us we can do something.

We hope you all are know the fact that, we Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus) and Kunjana Ghimire (Suntali), returned back from America to Nepal soon after EQ to help and service for the survivals. We distributed relief materials in almost 11 EQ affected districts; more than 60 toilets were made. After few months of EQ we constructed Model houses in Kavre for 18 families, with huge support from Sagun (Social Media), Bhadragol team (comedy serial) and national and international helping hands. We completed that Model Village project with NRs. 69 lakhs 50 thousand, in that amount NRs. 58 lakhs 50 thousand were supported from national and international helping hands and rest of the budget were our own personal.  We are very happy and grateful to support at least 18 families with houses of Pahri Gaun, Kavre.

The life of survivals from EQ were very much struggling, floods, landslides, thunderstorm, cold waves, fire in house and forests, and also rainy season is coming very soon.  The survivals have spend one rainy season in temporary settlements but another one more rainy season in that settlement, its next to impossible, mean it will be create great challenge in their lives. So, Government and responsible stakeholders should wake up and show hurry in implementation of reconstruction project.

We have many more lesson learnt from first Integrated Model village, if we get more helping hands extending towards our dream of making second model village, we’ll definitely achieve timely and perfect with those lesson learnt. We have got many appreciation from first model village despite we feel now we could have done more to that village. We will have a little more time and will try our best to make it ideal. We have selected location for second integrated model village but without your support we cannot imagine to make that Ideal, whenever we seen the hope of support from helping hands same as in first project we’ll definitely announce about the project.

Rebuilding Giran Chaur Village

We have selected and planned Gidanchaur, Melamchi municipality-8, Sindhupalchok (one of the EQ affected district) district for our second integrated Model village. In that village 65 Tamang families with 515 people were affected from EQ and settling in temporary settlements. The second project is much bigger and will be constructing more houses than first one. We have planned to make clean and child friendly model village with EQ resistant houses, attached toilet, a water tap, a garden and community hall. We also have planned to construct village as home stay which will promote tourism in that village too. The list of individuals and organizations donating for this construction project will be made in the wall of community hall.

It’s not very easy and small task to make the settlements. We have challenges too but if we face challenges positively and successfully make 65 settlements, at least in coming days 65 families will be breathe in safe air and nation will get one clean, Open Defecation Free, Child Friendly Model village. In this initiation we welcome all helping hands and expect support from all the people.

We have gained many support, help and trust from all people, on the basis of that we planned and decided to initiate another reconstruction project. We have very great hope to get same support, commitments of help and helping hands for our next project too. And we’ll finally implement and complete our second Model village as reconstruction project for EQ affected people.
